By using a metronome, write down the maximum speed you can play cleanly in a practice log. If it doesn’t groove, it’s not going to sound right no matter how fast you play. You probably have chords, scales, arpeggios, picking techniques, soloing, theory, songs, etc. but you just need to focus on 1 skill or song at a time. If you occupy your time with a lot of other activities or work, you still need to spare some time for guitar practicing even if it’s for five minutes only before work or before bed. The ideal playing time is usually 45 to 50 minutes only, followed by a 10 to 15 minute break. Don’t ever
practice your guitar in pain!

Practice does make perfect but the results also depend greatly on how to practice effectively.

  1. Wow. You’ve got a very nice site here. Your ideas and experiences are indeed useful and interesting to most studio managers and music teachers like me. I completely agree with you: Practice does make perfect but the results also depend greatly on how to practice effectively. Yes, the outcome mainly depends on how you practice – the way you make efforts and put your heart in whatever you do. Never overdo practicing; otherwise, you would no longer enjoy the fun of playing the musical instrument. That’s what I always tell my fellow music teachers and our dear learners as well. Please also post some creative studio management tips available today online as these may really be of great help to most of us. Thanks again and more power. Happy holidays!
